IT MAY BE LATER THAN YOU THINK
by Joseph Barton

I spent most of Thursday going over the sporting clays calendar for 2003.  After printing the calendar from ShootersPages.com website, I sat and highlighted the shoots that Cindy and I would be going to in the upcoming months.

Several of the shoots would require motel stays out of town.  Having used up most of the morning picking shoots, I decided to continue into the afternoon making motel arrangements thus hoping I'd have my shooting all arranged with nothing more to do except show up.

First night out would be in Cuero for Buz Hamilton's Blue Bonnet shoot on 3/29/03.  For those of you that have never been to Cuero, the motels are not that numerous and some of them are a little on the old side.  There wasn't a problem making reservations there since Cuero's main attractions, as per the Internet, are the airport and the hospital!

The World Sporting in San Antonio is another story.  Since the shoot is not until April, three months away, I thought that I wouldn't run into problems getting a room.   Wrong!

I used to get the cheapest room in a recognized motel chain.   However, as a result, I have spent too many nights sleepless, listening to crying kids, noisy adults, noise from poolside, etc.

This year I would opt for a moderately priced suite to separate myself from all the party-goers looking for cheap digs.  I discovered that my first three choices were already booked for the April time slot!

For those of you who are going to San Antonio for the first time, keep this in mind.  San Antonio is a city which also hosts many conventions and festivals.  While there are lots of hotels and motels, getting one that is close to the shooting grounds and suitable for your needs could be a problem if left to the last minute.

I have complied a list of toll free numbers for the major chains and a list of website addresses.  This information may be found on the Great Links page on ShootersPages.com
