The Clay Wing Shooters of
Winnfield, LA participated in the Annual State Championship held at Tallow
Creek Shooting and Hunting Preserve in Covington, LA on June 3-5, 2005.
For some of these young
shooters, it was the fist time to compete in a State Championship. The
Clay Wing shooters were also the first two teams to compete in Louisiana
under the Scholastic Clay Target Program sponsored by the National
Shooting Sports Foundation.
Ethan Hall of Quitman,
LA, and Dillon McCartney finished 2nd and 3rd in the
Sub Juniors Concurrent Event. The High Over All Team in SCTP Team event
winners were Ethan Hall, Dillon McCartney and Joseph Dulaney. All of the
Clay Wings Shooters were very competitive among the field of seasoned
Sporting Clay shooters.
These young shooters have
improved from one tournament to the next as evidenced by their increasing
scores. They are beginning to understand the mental processes that
have to be applied to move to the next level of competition. |
The Team participated in the Junior
Nationals Scholastic Clay Target Program in Detroit, MI. on July 22-24,
2005. The LA SCTP shooters placed 3rd and 6th. The
winning team of that SCTP Championship received a $1,000.00
Scholarship per team member to be used toward college. In addition to the
scholarships, the winning team members received an invitation to the
Junior Olympic try outs in Colorado City, Colorado this September.
The Scholastic Clay Target
Program offers all three of the clay shooting disciplines: NSSA Skeet,
NSCA Sporting Clays, and ATA Trap. The teams are placed in competitive
divisions such as Rookie Division (5th grade and below), Junior Division
(6th through 8th grade), Senior Novice and Senior Experienced Divisions
(9th through 12th grade).
